Common questions

How is import tax calculated in Georgia?

First the customs value is worked out: the value of the goods plus freight and insurance up to the Georgian border. Duty is charged on that value, and VAT (18%) on the value plus the duty.

How can I get a 0% duty rate?

Georgia has free-trade agreements with the EU, China, Turkey, and most CIS countries. With a valid preferential certificate of origin the duty drops to 0% - VAT still applies.

Does the calculator include excise?

No. Excise applies only to vehicles, fuel, alcohol, and tobacco. For a vehicle import, contact us - the excise depends on engine size and age, and we'll work out the exact figure.

  • Import duty at the 0%, 5%, or 12% band - or 0% with a preferential certificate of origin
  • 18% VAT charged on the customs value plus the duty
  • Estimates work in any invoice currency - USD, EUR, or GEL
