HS codes in Georgia

What is an HS code?

The Harmonized System (HS) is the worldwide product classification used by customs. The first 6 digits are the same in every country; Georgia adds 5 more digits for its national tariff, giving an 11-digit commodity code that decides the duty, VAT and permits for your goods.

How do I find the right code for my goods?

Start with what the product is made of and what it is used for, then narrow down from the chapter to the heading and the 11-digit line. Your supplier's export code is a good starting point, but the first 6 digits are the only part guaranteed to match. When in doubt, ask a customs broker - a wrong code can mean extra duty or a delayed release.

Does a code tell me the full cost of import?

It tells you the rates. The duty and VAT are calculated on the customs value of the goods plus freight and insurance to the Georgian border. Use our customs duty calculator for an estimate, and remember that excise applies only to some goods such as alcohol, tobacco, fuel and cars.
